DeMiero served as Supervisor of Music for the Edmonds School District in Edmonds, Washington for 13 years. He founded the internationally-acclaimed Soundsation jazz choir and was Music Department Director at Edmonds Community College. He was Director of Vocal Jazz Studies at the University of Washington, and he recently founded the Northwest's only professional jazz choir--The Seattle Jazz Singers. DeMiero's jazz choirs have performed with many great entertainers and artists.
He is presently on the advising council for the International Association of Jazz Educators, and is the Northwest Coordinator for the IAJE as well. Equally well versed in the classical idiom DeMiero is in constant demand as a guest conductor and clinician at national and international choral events.
Frank was the first recipient of Vocal Summits Frank DeMiero Award at Vocal Summit X, 2004. This award is given to a person who has shown excellence in his/her field of music education, and exceptional community service. As the person for whom the award was named, Frank embodies all of these attributes, and is an excellent role model for anyone to follow. This is a perpetual award that will be given whenever it is deemed that someone has warranted it. The perpetual award will be on display at Brooks Secondary School. Each winner is presented with a beautiful plaque.
Because of his unique inspirational approach to music education, Dave Frishberg dubbed Frank DeMiero, "the Vince Lombardi of Vocal Jazz."
